Today we landed in Auckland, New Zealand, after stopovers in Amsterdam and Hong Kong. The journey went well, and after thirty hours of travelling we were pleasantly surprised at the Auckland airport with a welcoming committee from the rally organization.
Andrew Simms Newmarket, the Auckland Mitsubishi distributor, picked us up at the airport and provided us with cars from Mitsubishi for transportation and recce. Tomorrow we will have access to our sea container, and the mechanichs will be there first thing in the morning to start installing the new engine.
The weather is cloudy and about +10 degrees Celsius (+50 degrees Fahrenheit). It’s winter over here – but there won’t be any snow here on the northern part of the island. However there can be some wet roads during the rally, as it often rains this time of year.
The entire team sends its best greetings to all of you, we ar really looking forwards to the competition and to get all the preparations started!
