After displaying undoubted brilliance on the start line and driving tenacity, Ramona’s event here in Holjes has unfortunately come to a premature end due to engine failure.
Yesterday even though the spin resulting from competitor contact in Heat 1 caused some crucial time loss, Ramona’s Heat 2 was a strong drive delivering a great time and 3rd position finish. RamonaRX finished the day placed in 28th position in the 35 entry Supercar class. As this is not a EuropeanRX event there is only one World RX class for the Supercar leader board. Timing between the driver positions was incredibly close.
In warm up this morning she drove good lap times. In addition, following this, the engineers had to work expeditiously to change the differential before the start of Heat 3 β no small feat to complete in under 30 mins! Ramona felt very positive and had added enthusiasm for Heat 3 with this new change to the car.
Sadly after being first off the line and circumventing some fierce jostling from the competition, the Scirocco began to lose power a few hundred meters down the track . By the joker lap all power was lost and Ramona had to retire. Regrettably the engine fault was too extensive to allow for her to be able to participate in Heat 4.
βIt’s been a bit of a frustrating event for me and the team. Nobody wants to end the competition in this way. As difficult and unlucky as it may seem I remain positive because everything we do counts towards valuable experience for everyone on the team that we use for constant improvement.β Ramona explains.
The next round for the FIA European Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy will be in Norway 21st-23rd August.
